A fundamental responsibility of each and every rider is to be disciplined in terms of his/her body. This is not restricted to the giving of aids, but is a constant requirement to remain in balance when in the saddle - thereby allowing the animal confidence and freedom to move in an unrestricted manner. As well as this the Pilates principles of focus and awareness are crucial to success in the saddle. Even quite experienced riders are often surprised by eg how differently their two legs operate (our horses are usually the ones trying to tell us this!)
Rider Awareness Sessions - an introduction
A gentle introduction to Pilates, offering an overview of the potential benefits, together with practical exercises to demonstrate simple 'Groundwork' for riders to take away. Ideal for a "workshop" approach with larger groups eg riding club, fun camps etc.
Pilates for the Rider - a course of sessions specifically geared towards the Rider
Once people have recognised how beneficial Pilates can be in their own preparation for improved riding, it is possible to book a course of Pilates sessions geared to the rider. These are similar to normal Pilates sessions, however the relevance of movements and exercises to 'in-saddle' scenarios will be highlighted and discussed throughout.
